Questions, Frequently Asked

1. I have never danced tango before, where should I start?

We recommend everyone start with Tango 101. If you are already familiar with tango walking, rock steps, and ochos, and can improvise a dance with a partner using these elements, Tango 102 may be more appropriate for you.

2. Do I need a partner?

No. Most folks come alone and make friends as they learn tango!

2. Do I need to register for the Drop-in class at the Eighteenth Street Lounge?

No. Just remember to bring photo ID. The Lounge is strictly a 21+ venue.

3. The 101 series has already started, should I wait for the next one?

You may join a currently running 101 class until week 3, especially if you have already attended the Drop-in class at the Lounge once or twice. From week 4 onward, please wait until the next session starts.

4. Do I need to register online or can I register in class?

We prefer online registration but yes, you may also register in class if there is still space available. Make checks payable to Tango Mercurio.

5. Do I need to register for a full series or can I just drop in whenever I like?

You may drop in to a class anytime, but we strongly recommend taking the entire series.

6. Can I make up classes if I registered for a series and missed one?

Yes, if there is space available you may make up the class within 30 days. Tell the instructor that you are using a make-up credit. If the class you want is full, you may use your make-up credit at our drop-in class at the Lounge on Tuesdays.

7. Do you offer a student discount?

Yes, for full time students with valid ID, our drop-in rate for classes is $10. There is no series discount, but if a class is filling up, you may register for $60.
