Learn to Dance Tango

Regular Visiting Instructors

We are fortunate to be able to present a number of guest instructors in the DC area throughout the year. The following artists are our most consistent collaborators.

Daniela Borgialli holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Dance and Choreography from Arizona State University where she currently is a Faculty Associate. She has been immersed in the world of Argentine Tango for more than 10 years and travels annually to Buenos Aires guiding a Tango Tour, teaching, and for professional development. Along with teaching at the University she shares Tango with several community colleges and studios in the Phoenix area as well as conducting workshops throughout the US. Tango is her full-time profession. She has been fortunate to study with many great maestros/as including Graciela Gonzalez, Luciana Valle, Fabian Salas, Fernanda y Guillermo, Brigitta Winkler, and Tomas Howlin just to name a few. Daniela continues to explore how the dance is taught and attended El Corte's Teacher Training. She incorporates and expands her curriculum revealing an accessible program. Her theoretical and technical background in contemporary dance, her enthusiasm and passion, intuitive nature, and artistry contribute to her methods as a dance instructor. Daniela will be teaching for both our youth outreach program and our adult classes during the month of July 2010. Daniela's website

Korey Ireland is a professional composer turned tango-addict. He brings a lifetime of musical experience and an unquenchable thirst for tango to his teaching. Korey's dance style is informed by miles of dance floor experience in Buenos Aires, Berlin, Nijmegen, Moscow, Istanbul, London, New York, San Francisco, Portland...as well as guidance from some phenomenal teachers (Valle, Naviera, Krebs, Jeurissen, Winkler, Guittierez, Castillano, Gonzalez). Korey is serious about the craft of teaching tango; he has attended both levels of the El Corte Teacher Training week, and has engaged in professional training seminars and personal explorations with many of the art form's leading instructors. Since early 2004, Korey has been traveling full time and is grateful for the opportunity to share tango with literally thousands of students around the world. He will visit DC next in October to teach adult classes and direct Mercurio's Community Tango Orchestra.

Javier Rochwarger is a warmly intense and generous talent belonging to Buenos Aires' new generation of tango dancers. Grounded, sensual, and musical, in the past ten years he has traveled throughout the U.S. and in Japan and Spain to teach classes. Javier's fluid and intimate style of dancing defies easy classification. He seamlessly integrates a variety of influences, making his insights valuable whether you consider yourself a devotee of milonguero style or a nuevo tango renegade. Rarer still is his practical understanding of how the body moves and how to communicate complex concepts to students of all levels. As one who has come the long road from novice to professional, Javier has a unique and compassionate perspective. His students praise him for the exceptional personal attention that he provides even in group classes, and for his patience and his warm sense of humor. Javier teaches workshops annually in DC in February.
