Tango Fashion Stories

Join us for captivating stories about tango fashion! Landis Lee, fashion historian, will take us back to the 1913 Paris tango craze and explain how this "tangomania" influenced women's fashion well beyond dancing circles, forcing designers to abandon corsets and produce dresses that were less restrictive to the body. Then, Rome-based tango couture designer Angela Facchini will walk us through her tango creations and explain the intricacies of designing haute couture for some of the most famous tango performers.

After the presentation, join us for a discussion and a Q&A session.

The program is free and open to all, but donations to Tango Mercurio, a nonprofit arts education organization, are welcome.

About Angela Facchini

AngelaFacchini.png

Angela Facchini leads the way in Tango Couture from her home base in Rome. Her journey in the fashion industry started with her Italian family roots: her mother was an accomplished embroider and her father established a business manufacturing wooden clothes hangers for the rag trade of Sydney. Angela started her fashion career in the custom wedding gown industry and soon established her own line, Dolce Luna Bridal. She was commissioned to create a 2.5 million dollar wedding gown with leading Sydney jeweller Nicola Cerrone. In 2004, Angela started designing hand made, beautifully tailored, one-off-a-kind tango gowns for some of Rome’s leading tango dancers. Today, her tango dresses are sought after by some of the most prominent tango performers, and have been worn by Kim Benitez, Maria Tsiatsiani, Roberta Beccarini, Chiara Greco, Sabrina Amato, Anna Maria Ferrara, Bibianna Reynoso and Victoria Maria Arenillas.
