Winter/Spring 2025 Schedule

Schedule

Our 2025 winter and spring courses run progressively for 18 weeks from January 12th until May 16th. Whether you are an absolute beginner or have been dancing for years, we offer a range of courses.

Wednesday evening courses @ La Cosecha are scheduled in 6 week segments (Jan. 15 - Feb. 19; Feb. 26 - Apr. 02; Apr. 09 - May 14).

Friday evening courses @ Balance Gym Capitol Hill are scheduled in 6 week segments (Jan. 17 - Feb. 21; Feb. 28 - Apr. 04; Apr. 11 - May 16).

The only weekend beginners boot camp is scheduled for Saturday/Sunday (March 01-02) @ La Cosecha.

Milonga intensive seminar is scheduled for Sunday, March 16 @ La Cosecha.

Vals intensive seminar is scheduled for Sunday, April 20 @ La Cosecha.

In addition, we offer all-level Technique Classes on 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month before our Matinee Milonga (Jan. 12, 26; Feb. 09, 23; Mar. 09, 23, Apr. 13, 27; May 11). All @ La Cosecha.

We encourage the study of both roles, role-switching, and dancing with a variety of partners. (Staying with one partner is also welcome). All our classes seek to create a safe, LGBTQ+-inclusive space for dancers to practice tango according to their unique interests and preferences.


Level 1 - Tango Initiation w/ Joerg & Sarah
Our most popular gateway to tango!

Learn about balance, posture, basic musical education and technique for tango movement, while improvising with a partner. Class vocabulary includes the tango “walk”, cunitas (rock steps), the follower’s cross, back ochos, basic navigational tools and introductory level adornments.

People often choose to take this in conjunction with the Weekend Bootcamp (March 1-2) for accelerated learning and integration.

No partner required. Must register.

Level 2 - Tango Essentials in Cross System w/ Ramu & Wonseon

This course is the bridge from classroom to milonga (a tango party for social dancing).
You will learn
- essential vocabulary in cross & parallel systems
- technique and tools for improvisation and navigation
- musicality (pharsing and interpreting different orchestras)
Many students choose to repeat this course a few times to build their confidence for social dancing.

Level 1+ Tango Booster w/ Nick

This 6 week course is the bridge between (Tango Initiation/Bootcamp) and Tango Essentials.

Review the basics and fundamentals from Tango Initiation. Explore combinations of the fundamentals. Explore cross system in more depth.

Pre-requisite: 6 week Tango Initiation OR Weekend Bootcamp OR prior tango experience (6-9 hours of instruction).

Level 2 - Tango Turns w/ Ramu & Wonseon
When the Going gets Tough, the Tough get Turning!

Turns are the most useful "tools" for navigating crowded dance floors. In this series, we will develop a good grasp of technique (theory, timing) for "giros" and "molinettes". We will work together to explore the subtleties and changes of dynamic to achieve smooth, powerful and effortless turns.

Level 1 - Tango Initiation (Weekend Bootcamp)

This course covers all of the material in the 6-week Tango Initiation series condensed into one fun weekend of two 3-hour sessions. This course is a great way to dive in and get immersed in tango. People often choose to take this in conjunction with the 6-week series (Jan. 15 - Feb. 19) for accelerated learning and integration.

Level 2/3- Milonga Intensive Seminar

A 3 hour intensive to get you grooving to milongas at the milongas!

A fun and challenging seminar where you will learn classic, timeless and iconic combinations "stolen" from old milongueros(as).

Level 2/3 - Close-Embrace Intensive
One of the most sought after qualities in tango is a comfortable and connected embrace. In this 6 week series, we will explore in depth and develop the technique for exactly that!

We will focus on the vocabulary most commonly used on crowded dance floors helping you become a confident and comfortable partner (both leading and following).

This series is for you if you have
- already taken two or more iterations of our Advanced Beginner series.
- a good understanding of most tango basics, but wish you could be more comfortable in close embrace.

Level 2/3 - Vals Intensive Seminar

A 3 hour intensive on Vals-Criollo
Focusing on timing, sequences & turns.

Pre-requisite: Some fluency in cross system vocabulary.

In addition to the series classes, we highly recommend you join our supplemental trainings and social events to accelerate your learning experience. All activities at La Cosecha (1280 4th Street NE, Washington, DC 20002).

  • Technique - Special Topics (every 2nd and 4th Sunday, 2-3pm)
    Whether you’re learning for the first time or need a refresher, we will cover special topics throughout the season.
    Drop-ins allowed.

  • Matinee Milongas (every 2nd and 4th Sunday, 3-6pm)
    Enjoy your hard work and mingle with our local DC community at our afternoon social event.

Pricing

125 Day Challenge! ($250)

New Year, new resolutions and a challenge! We are challenging ourselves to bring the joy and connection of tango to more people and accelerate the journeys of those who started in the recent past.

The 125 Day Challenge allows you to take any or all of our group classes and attend any or all of our milongas (social dances) this winter and spring, from January 12 to May 16. Whether you are on a hiatus or an absolute beginner, challenge yourself to become a dancer or grow as a tango dancer by taking as many classes and attending as many milongas as you can in the next four months.

The 125 day challenge is a great value and includes all of the following:

  • Level 1, 1+, Level 2/3 courses (2 weekly classes w/ practicas for 18 weeks)

  • Weekend Bootcamp

  • Milonga & Vals Intensive Seminars

  • 9 Pre-milonga Classes

  • 9 Matinee milongas

 

Other pricing options include:

  • 6 week enrollment ($100) can be used for any 6 week series

  • Drop-in ($25) can be used for any Level 2/3 Series classes

  • Drop-ins are NOT allowed for 6 week Level 1 Series ($100) and the Weekend Bootcamp ($100)

2nd & 4th Sunday Technique classes and milongas are $15 each and you can pay at the door or register online.

Discounts: Discounts are available for Full-time students (50% off) and Seniors/Active-Duty Military (25% off). ID verification will be required at your first visit.

For aficionados of our Matinee Milonga, we are offering a Milonga Pass (9 milongas) for $90.
