Code of Conduct

Tango Mercurio Code of Conduct

As a community of people learning to connect through the embrace of Tango, at Tango Mercurio we practice consent-based touch as a positive way of developing our own boundaries and increasing feelings of safety among our participants and across our community.

Further, we have a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behaviors such as the following:

• Harassment of any form, including, but not limited to, offensive verbal comments, sharing of sexual images, stalking, following, or other intimidating behavior, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of events, and unwelcome attention.
• Any form of unwanted touch or assault.
• Intoxication to the point where dancing and socializing become dangerous or uncomfortable for other attendees.
• Discrimination of any kind.
• Use of alcohol or drugs to unwittingly intoxicate or take advantage of other persons.

Any participant or member of our community who is subjected to or witnesses in any of the above behaviors should report such incidents to the Tango Mercurio instructor or host as soon as they feel comfortable doing so. Reports can also be made anonymously via our online form or via email to info@tangomercurio.org.

All information will be kept confidential to the extent practicable.

Consequences

Upon receiving a report of any code of conduct violation, Tango Mercurio will investigate the allegations and take prompt corrective action, if appropriate. Such corrective action may include:

• Discussing the code of conduct violation with the offender and requesting a commitment to correct their conduct so that the safe atmosphere of our community is maintained.
• Banning an offender from Tango Mercurio events.
• Such other action as the Tango Mercurio board deems appropriate.

For allegations of sexual assault or harassment Tango Mercurio will listen fully and document the complaint and refer the victim to law enforcement to file a report and to medical and/or trauma support resources such as the National Sexual Violence Resource Center and the DC Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

Tango Mercurio will contact security or law enforcement in cases where a Tango Mercurio instructor or host witnesses incidents which involve illegal drugs, sexual harassment or sexual or non-sexual assault or any other violations of the law.

Enrollment in Tango Mercurio classes of attendance at any of our events indicates acceptance of this code of conduct and the consequences outlined in this document.
