Last spring, during the pandemic, Tango Mercurio offered a well received virtual workshop on “Exploring Body Awareness for Tango via Gyrokinesis” with Utha Callen.
We are happy to announce that Utha will be offering an in-person 3 class series on -
”Body Awareness - how to dance for longer with less pain”.
Utha is a Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic® trainer and teacher trainer with over 10 years of experience. She loves to help students experience their bodies in new, more nuanced ways, and she works with all her students to help find comfortable alignment that will help them avoid injuries. She started dancing tango shortly after she started teaching Gyrotonic®, quickly fell in love with it, and has been dancing all over the country and the world ever since.
About the program : In this three part series we will be looking at specific muscles in the body that can help create healthy, mechanically efficient posture for tango that will help keep you dancing into the night! We’ll examine where these muscles are, what they do, how we use them in tango, and how to train them to help you find comfort and ease in your dance. The first class will be all about our roots - the feet! The next class we’ll look at the hip and knee, and how we can avoid common pitfalls that make these joints ache. Finally we’ll finish by exploring how we can hold and move our spinal column to make our dancing fluid and comfortable no matter the role or experience level. Come explore your body and find more freedom in your dancing!
